The Johnson County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been under construction since early June 2011. The planning process for the EOC renovations began in 2010 when Johnson County received a $250,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to renovate and update the EOC space. Johnson County was one of only 20 jurisdictions in the United States to receive this grant competitively. Since that time, Emergency Management personnel in partnership with both internal and external partners have evaluated physical, technological, and organizational considerations to maximize the new and improved space. This planning lead to many changes including the need for a raised floor throughout the EOC. This process will allow for better cord management for the increase utilizing of various computers and technology throughout the space. Not only will this ensure they run efficiently it will also eliminate safety hazards that previously existed in the EOC.
